Sheriff's Office Press release January 23, 2008

On 01-23-08 at around 1:30 AM Okanogan County Deputies received a report of a 911 hang up call on Miller Road out of Omak. When dispatch called the residence back the line was still busy.

While enroute to the scene dispatch received another telephone from another residence on Miller Road from a female wanting to report an assault. Once on scene they contacted the victim of the assault.

The victim stated that she had been at her residence sleeping upstairs when she heard the glass door in the living room break. The victim stated she heard someone come into the residence and she ran to a closet to hid. The victim stated that the suspect found her in the closet and pulled her out. The suspect who was armed with a knife then raped the victim.

After the assault the suspect took cash from the victim and then left the residence. The victim was able to then get to a phone and call for help. The victim was later transported to Mid-Valley Hospital.

Deputies the processed the scene and began to look for the suspect, who had also apparently injured himself when he broke out the glass in the door. Deputies were able to track the suspect in the snow to another residence on Miller Road. Once at the residence Deputies contacted Aruto Argumendo-Diaz, 33, of Omak. Diaz matched the description of the suspect and had cuts to his hands. Upon completion of the investigation Diaz was taken into custody and booked into the Okanogan County Jail for First Degree Rape.
